Évora, Trás-os-Montes and the project for FCCN comprise the use of more than 1300 kilometres of optical fiber. The projects are worth 16 million Euros.
The Association of Municipalities of Terra Quente Transmontana (AMTQT) has awarded the construction and design of the infrastructure for a community broadband network in Terra Quente Transmontana to the consortium formed by ENSUL MECI, PT Prime, Cabelte and Nextiraone. This investment is valued at 7.7 million Euros and will provide around 90 thousand people with access to the Internet and advanced broadband services. Around 350 kilometres of optical fiber will be used to serve the municipalities of Alfândega da Fé, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Macedo de Cavaleiros, Mirandela and Vila Flor, with a link to Bragança.
The PT Prime, ENSUL, MECI and Nextiraone consortium will also develop a similar project for the Association of Municipalities of the District of Évora (AMDE). The consortium is in charge of designing and building underground infrastructure (MAN; LAN) and supplying and setting up an optical fiber network (extending 556 km). The project also includes setting up wireless link systems and 15 POPs.
The municipalities covered by this project include Évora, Vendas Novas, Montemor-o-Novo, Mora, Arraiolos, Estremoz, Borba, Vila Viçosa, Redondo, Alandroal, Mourão, Reguengos de Monsaraz, Portel and Viana do Alentejo. The contract is worth more than 6.8 million Euros and, like the Trás-os-Montes project, it will be completed at the end of 2008.
As part of this project, a link will be made to the first school using a 100Mbyte connection, as well as a network covering other schools in Évora, the university, and the hospital.
For REFER TELECOM, within the framework of a FCCN (Fundação para a Computação Científica Nacional) project to link universities and a European project for connecting universities, ENSUL MECI is in charge of a project that will enable linking the universities with Spain. This means that an optical fiber connection between Lisbon - Entrecampos and Elvas will be established. The infrastructure will extend a total of 401 kilometers and, like the project above, it includes supplying and setting up an optical fiber network. This project is worth 2.7 million Euros.
ENSUL MECI has been actively participating in the Digital Cities and Regions project and, besides these awarded projects; it has already participated in projects for 72 national municipalities. (Almada, Setúbal, Loures, Leiria, Algarve, Braga, Gaia, among others) |
