The last section of South of the Tagus Light Rail (MST) planned for the first phase of the project has been officially opened.
The new section begins at Cova da Piedade and passes through the stations of Bento Gonçalves, Almada, São João Baptista, Gil Vicente, 25 de Abril and Cacilhas, a work which observes the deadline announced at the time of the official opening of MST for the conclusion of the first phase by the end of 2008.
The first phase of MST is thus complete. It comprises three lines extending 13.6 kilometres with links to public transport, such as the river and road transport terminal of Cacilhas and the Fertagus and Transportes Sul Tejo network at the stations of Corroios and Pragal.
The official opening of this third phase which took place on 27 November was attended by the Minister of Public Works, Mário Lino, the President of the City Council of Almada, representatives of the local government and the concessionaire.
