Within the scope of the Hydro Plan for Portugal, EDP is in the process of building a new hydroelectric plant - Baixo Sabor, situated in the Municipality of Torres de Moncorvo in the District of Braganza, through its subsidiary EDP Gestão da Produção de Energia, SA.
With 170 megawatts (MW) of power, the hydroelectric exploitation of Baixo Sabor is scheduled to become operational in September 2013. With an average annual production of 444 gigawatts (GWh), the new unit will generate enough electricity to supply around 300,000 consumers with clean energy.
The ENSULMECI / ANDRITZ HYDRO consortium is in charge of supplying and setting up all the mechanical and electrical equipment necessary for the plant's functioning.
Hydro-mechanical equipment; four groups of generators, two on the upstream dam and the other two on the downstream dam, with a nominal power of 170 MW; equipment for lifting and moving people and cargo; installation at generation voltage; group transformers; installation of energy emission and interconnection at 220 KV; command and control system; installation of general auxiliary services; safety installations and observation and command posts.
The exploitation of Baixo Sabor consists of two plants (two dams), both on the Sabor River. The upstream plant lies 12 km from the mouth of the Sabor River (at the confluence with the Douro River) and the downstream plant is located 3 km from the mouth of the Sabor River. |
