: Boosting the power of Bemposta

The VA TECH HYDRO and ENSULMECI Consortium is starting works on a project consisting of the supply of all the equipment for the new power boosting hydroelectric plant. The equipment list includes the generating set consisting of a Francis turbine and an alternator with a nominal power of 191 MW / 212 MVA, hydro-mechanical equipment, equipment for lifting and moving people and cargo, installation at generation voltage, group transformer with a voltage of 417 KV / 15 KV and power of 215 MVA and facilities for energy emission and interconnection at 400 KV. The consortium is also responsible for the command and control system and the general auxiliary service and safety facilities.

The overall project, including another civil construction contract job, consists in the construction of an underground hydroelectric plant in a 60 metre deep pit, in a hydraulic circuit in a tunnel and various pits and support and access tunnels.
The new plant is scheduled to become operational in the second half of 2011.
